Civic Museum of the fossils

The civic fossil museum is to be found in the centre of Besano, located in a residence dating to the 1900's.
The collection displays some of the main discoveries made in the Besano Formation, one of the most important fossiliferous levels of the MSG. In the four rooms the fossils (some originals, others casts) are displayed according to systematic criteria, with short explanations and the details relating to their discoveries.

As well as numerous invertebrates and plants, casts and originals of many marine reptiles are exhibited, amongst which is that of a "Besanosaurus", an ichthyosaur 6 metres long, and various ichthyosaurs of the genus "Mixosaurus".
