The fossil museum of Monte San Giorgio

The Monte San Giorgio fossil museum at Meride displays examples of the paleontological heritage from the UNESCO site.

The new structure was inaugurated in 2012.

On three floors the museum presents the principal fossil bearing levels of Monte San Giorgio. Fossils of animals and plants are accompanied by brief explanations. Some photographs from the first half of the 20th century take us back to the first fossil discoveries by Peyer and his digging team.

A film from some years ago illustrates the modern techniques of excavation and the preparation of fossils.
