Civic Natural History Museum

The Civic Natural History Museum at Milan is the biggest museum of its type in Italy and amongst the most important in Europe.

Notwithstanding its destruction due to second world war bombing and the consequent loss of the entire paleontological collection, the museum has promoted and carried out some important excavations on Monte San Giorgio that have enabled the recovery of numerous fossil fish and reptiles as well as many invertebrates. The exhibitions that display the Monte San Giorgio material are dominated by the cast of a "Besanosaurus": a female with an embryo.
