Cantonal Museum of Natural History

The cantonal museum of Natural History at Lugano, that displays material datable to the end of the Pleistocene, is responsible for the organization of scientific research on the Swiss flank of the UNESCO site of Monte San Giorgio.

The exhibition section that deals with the Mid Triassico reproduces the progressive submergence of dry land by the Tethys Ocean and the formation of the successive carbonate platforms and the marine depressions on the bottom of which the fossilization of organisms became possible. Numerous Triassic fossils from Monte San Giorgio are displayed: from molluscs to insects, and including fish and reptiles.
