Caverna Generosa

On the Italian flank of Monte Generoso, close to the Swiss border, the 'Caverna Generosa' has yielded abundant fossil remains of "Ursus spelaeus" (more than 40,000 items) dating to about 60,000 years ago, as well as more rare remains of other mammal species. Various flint implements have also been found, associated with Neanderthals, the oldest evidence of the presence of man in Lombardy.

Specialised studies on micro-mammals have allowed the reconstruction of the environments that succeeded one another, as well as the two periods of glaciation experienced during the last 60,000 years.
